Story Function/Archetype:

He retired to Hawaii, after 35 years with the Pennsylvania State Police Major Case Squad in Pittsburgh. (He says "pop" instead of soda, uses the word "yins" and was always told to "red" up his room by his parents). In Hawaii, he took a few cases as private investigator--mostly to have something to do.

He met the Brown's on one of their camping trips to Western Pa., and when their kids go missing, they drag him from Hawaii to help.
