At first, he wants to be the hero, and so he does everything himself, without listening to his brother. He sees a way to reach home in a couple of days. However, he decides not to go back for a couple of days, wanting their absence and his heroism to be dramatic. A few days later, he cannot find the path again. After days of failure, he becomes depressed. His brother is sick by now. He panics because if his brother dies, he won't be seen as the hero, and so, he would rather die himself. He sees this as being selfish and feels guilty.

[edit] Faults and Weaknesses
[edit] What does this character fall short?
He wants to be the hero. This stems from the fact that he was given up for adoption at birth and wants to prove to himself and to his family that he is useful. His brother was not adopted, and so Tam feels the need to prove to his parents that adopting him was not a mistake.
[edit] How do these faults and weakneses affect the character and the story?
He deliberately ignores the path that could help him reach home because he wants to return home under the guise of heroism and great fanfare. Later, he cannot find the path. His brother is sick by then and his life is endangered because of Tam's selfishness.
